What is Aqua Aerobics?
Aqua Aerobics is the performance of aerobic style exercise in shallow water. Aqua Aerobics is a type of resistance training and is perfect in the Inishowen Gateway Leisure Centre as our swimming pool is 1.4 meters deep which allows the average person to stand comfortably with their head above water. Aqua Aerobics is a group fitness class focusing on balance, coordination, endurance, resistance training, an enjoyable atmosphere and of course having fun.
Benefits of Aqua Aerobics?
In Aqua Aerobics, the low-impact exercise and the buoyancy of the water helps take off some of the impact we tend to place on our body. It also helps develop cardiovascular strength within the pulmonary system. Besides strengthening your heart and lungs, aerobic exercise can help lower your cholesterol, reduce your risk of type 2 diabetes, improve your immune function, and lower your blood pressure. The physical benefits of Aqua Aerobic exercise helps burn up calories which can in turn help you shed excess weight. As everyone has different weight in the water, weight loss varies but the average person can burn between 240 – 350 calories per class. The combination of strength and cardio workouts mixed with the water resistance in aquatic exercise ensures the body is getting a full workout.
Is Aqua Aerobics for me?
Aqua Aerobics has the misconception of being easy, but it is a great, low imapct workout targeting multiple areas of the body. Exercising in the water is great for reducing arthritis and other joint pain because it puts less stress on the joints and the buoyancy of the water helps reduce the pressure on joints. The water also acts as a form of resistance, so strength exercises can be performed in the water without heavy weights. it is one of our most popular classes here in the Inishowen Gateway Hotel's Leisure Centre and is a lot of fun and a very sociable class.
